Swinton (usually called Jack) was born in 1902 and he spent his childhood days at Beausale with his aunt and uncle, Bertha and George Shelton. He attended the village school there. Swinton worked mostly as a gardener but also as a shoe repairer and postman. He married Kathleen Hoyle at Honiley Church in 1926 and they first lived at Avenue Road, Kenilworth where Joan, Douglas and John were born. They moved to the Village Stores at Five Ways, Hatton and later to Charles Street and Pickard Street in Warwick. Swinton died in 1984 and Kathleen in 1991. Both were buried at Honiley Church where Swinton's grandparents were also buried.
