Amy was born a twin at Bearley but sadly her twin sister died when she was only 4 days old. Amy's childhood days were spent at Edstone Cottage and by the time of the 1891 Census she was working as a housemaid for Francis Badger at Edstone Farm. At the time of the 1901 Census she was living in as a housekeeper for Henry Jackson, a solicitor and clerk to the justices, and his son Henry Swinton Jackson at The Lodge, Great Alne, Warwickshire.

A year later Amy gave birth to Swinton at 67 Benton Road, Sparkhill, Yardley, Birmingham, where she was working as a housekeeper for Beatrice Buxton. It was arranged for Amy's sister Bertha to adopt Swinton as Amy was not well enough to look after him and she was admitted as a patient of Hatton Hospital. When she recovered she took up nursing as a career and was awarded a nursing medal for proficiency in mental nursing.

Amy married William Aylmer Edgerton, a jeweller at Lozells, Birmingham in 1907. They set up home in Derby where Ina, Margaret, Herbert and Vera were born. Amy died at Derby and William at Blackpool, Lancashire.
