Bernard Gilpin, grandson of William, played an active part in running the firm and was also a leading figure in the local community, serving as a County Magistrate. His first wife Julia Adelaide died in 1865. Their children were Emily Jane (1848-1864); Fanny Adelaide (1849 - ); William (1851 - ) and Julia Maud (1857-1951). Bernard's second marriage was to Georgina in 1870 who lived to the age of 87 at the family home of Longford House.
